Institute for Management and Technical Development

A community information resource for job seekers and employers. Administers federal and state job training funds on behalf of Middlesex County.

New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners Inc.
The largest statewide women business owners’ organization in the United States, NJAWBO’s primary objective is to support and encourage business ownership by women. Phone: 609-581-2121.

New Jersey Small Business Development Centers
Headquartered at Rutgers School of Business, offers a single point of access to Rutgers and New Jersey’s other publicly funded institutions for free counseling, affordable training and information services to help small businesses and prospective entrepreneurs in all areas of small-business management. A self-service Web site offering information on job seeking, employment counseling, and business expansion in the state.

Financing

Commercial banking. Two of New Jersey’s top 10 SBA lenders, Unity Bank, have local offices in downtown Highland Park. In 2004, New Jersey small business owners received a record number of loans, totaling $602 million, from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Information: 973-645-2434 or www.sba.gov/nj.

Microlending. For microloans (under $30,000), the Regional Business Assistance Corporation, or RBAC, may be able to help. RBAC is a community-lending program that provides loans and mentoring for startup and small businesses that cannot access financing from traditional lending sources. Sponsored in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration, RBAC serves a five-county region that includes Middlesex. RBAC’s Middlesex County office is in downtown New Brunswick. State assistance. New Jersey Economic Development Authority
For businesses or not-for-profit agencies in search of financing for:

  • Locating or expanding in New Jersey
  • Late-stage R&D or commercialization of a high-tech product
